The most glamorous of careers often hide the most piteous stories underneath. Lolo Jones, athlete of the USA and World hurdles, has earned the status he has achieved after years working hard and a lot of perseverance. A single mother in a family of five children, Jones had a difficult and impoverished childhood. Her mother had been constantly changing her location and she spent some time living within the basement. Jones lived a nomadic existence that forced her to change school every year up to high school. When she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, Jones was separated from her mother in order to pursue her interests in the track and field events. Jones lived with four different families in order to keep her study focused. Jones won the Gatorade Iowa Track and Field Athlete of the Year award during her time at school.
